Color laser printers are very powerful machines, and the Canon imageCLASS MF9170c is no exception. With speeds of up to 22 pages per minute using its four Canon MF9170c toner cartridges, buyers may find that it is a little slower than a lot of the competition. Its monthly duty cycle of 65,000 pages will be convenient for most users, and many small to midlevel business won't even be able to surpass that capacity.

Black, cyan, yellow and magenta imageCLASS MF9170c toner cartridges are needed for standard prints. The color toners last just as long as the black printer toner at 6,000 pages. This means that the majority of offices won't need to replace the Canon MF9170c toner very often.

Though the cost per page is a little expensive for some using the imageCLASS MF9170c toner, the resolutions produced may be worth the extra expense. Resolutions of up to 2400x600 dpi can be created when printing. Copying resolutions aren't quite as impressive at 600x600 dpi. What the copier does offer though are up to 256 levels of halftones. The copy function also features a 50-sheet automatic document feeder and a first page out time of only 13 seconds. Reductions and enlargements from 50%-200% are also featured.

The scanner can scan documents with resolutions of 600x600 dpi. Scan-to-USB features are offered, as well as the capability to save a file as a JPEG, PDF or TIFF format. The fax has a memory capacity of up to 1,000 pages and a fax transmission speed of 33.6 Kbps. The fax has the ability to print out incoming faxes with a resolution of 407x391 dpi, with the help of Canon MF9170c toner. Speed dialing is offered for up to 200 locations. A telephone to fax automatic switch is also included, and Windows and Mac operating systems will both work in conjunction with this laser unit.
