Canon MF6595 Printer Review
The Canon MF6595 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the small or medium office user. It has the paper capacity and built-in networking to handle a network of users, and all the features an office could want, wrapped up in a very affordable package. However, if color is desired, the Okidata C5150 toner printer is another solid choice.
The MF6595 can print, scan, copy, and fax. It does all of its functions extremely well, but its scanning and faxing capabilities are the real standouts. While many multifunction devices are eliminating fax capabilities, the MF6595 is a full-featured fax machine. It has Super G3 technology for transmitting and receiving at up to 33.6 kbps, it can save 23 numbers for speed dial, and 100 numbers in memory. It also stores the last 1,000 incoming pages into memory for reprinting a lost fax or printing an extra copy.
Scanning can be done in color at a bit depth up to 24-bit. Using the automatic document feeder, it is possible to scan up to 50 sheets automatically, and the duplex feeder can scan single or double-sided sheets, meaning users do not have to feed pages through twice to scan both sides. The feeder can be used for faxing, scanning, or copying. The MF6595 also includes OCR software for converting scanned documents into editable text for archiving or other purposes.
The Canon MF6595 has a built-in ethernet port for sharing it across a network of users. It also has a large paper capacity for supporting a fair number of users without having to stop to reload paper often. The standard paper tray holds 500 sheets, while the multipurpose tray holds 100 sheets. Print quality is excellent, due to the MF6595's 600 dpi printing engine. Print speed is a very fast 24 pages per minute.
The capacity for the Canon MF6595 toner cartridge is 5,000 pages, which is less than competing models such as the HP HP P2015 toner printer. Not a huge or small page yield, the Canon MF6595 is perfect for a small to medium office user.
Overall, the Canon MF6595 is a great choice for users who need a full-featured fax machine, or those archiving old documents. It will support a decent sized office of network users quite well, and its many functions will make the office more productive. However its lack of color may push some consumers to look at other choices, such as the magicolor 2430 toner printer.
