Canon MF4370 Printer Review
The Canon MF4370 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It features a straightforward design, with well-implemented multifunction features and a few bonuses like duplexing. Lack of network scanning is a big oversight.
The design of the Canon MF4370 is a little more bulky than many of the multifunction devices in its class, like the Canon MF4150 toner printer, but its straightforward design is very functional, and keeps it from feeling too big. The unit measures 17.9 inches by 15.4 inches by 21 inches (HWD) and weighs 27.6 pounds, so a strong person can easily move it.
The printer comes in two main versions, the MF4370d, which includes duplexing (two-sided printing) and the MF4370dn, which includes built-in networking. Duplexing is a very nice feature to see included, and is not common in printers at this price point. Duplex printing can also be a very economical option, as it saves on paper use, and has the ability to save a lot of money over the life of the printer.
The unit includes both a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder with a capacity of 35 pages for automatic scanning, faxing, or copying of multiple pages at once. Scanning quality is very impressive, but there is one major feature lacking: network scanning. Despite including a network port in the MF4370dn model, scans can only be sent to a computer connected by USB, severely limiting its usefulness. This is a very unfortunate oversight, as the MF4370's excellent scan quality makes it very appealing. Competing products include network scanning capabilities, but many of them don't support automatic duplexing, so users will have to decide on their own priorities. An upgrade to this printer would be the imageCLASS MF5770 toner printer.
Print speed is nice and fast, around 23 pages per minute. Print quality is excellent, especially for text. Graphics quality could be better, but text will be the majority of this printer's workload. The Canon MF4370 toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,000 pages. It's a small page yield; but for a home or small office user, the Canon MF4370 toner is idea.
Overall, the Canon MF4370 is an impressive printer and scanner with the rest of its features being mainly icing on the cake. Lack of network scanning is a severe limitation for such a high-quality scanner.
