The Canon LC720 laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. Its fast speeds, excellent faxing capabilities, and large paper capacity make it an excellent choice.

The Canon LC720 laser printer is a printer, copier, and fax machine in one. Faxing is its strongest function, with virtually every feature and option a user could want in a fax machine. The unit comes in two varieties. The LC720 is the base model, and the LC720i adds the capability of internet faxing, which uses an ethernet network for transmitting faxes instead of phone lines, for faster and often more reliable transmissions.

Paper capacity is 500 sheets. A handset is included for convenience. Page memory is up to 510 pages, and can store incoming pages in memory even when the unit is out of paper. It also includes a built-in battery backup, which is good for 12 hours of operation during power loss. The combination of these features ensures the you will almost never miss a fax. Confidential mailboxes are supported for multiple users, allowing users to password-protect sensitive faxes and print them at their convenience.

Canon LC720 toner cartridges have a capacity of 4,500 pages, and printer toner cartridges are very affordable, meaning a low cost per page. The laser toner cartridge is easily accessed from the front of the unit, and is simple to replace.

Super G3 transmission speeds up to 33.6 kbps are supported. Print speed is around 18 pages per minute. Print quality is mixed. Text is very good, with sharp characters, but some loss of definition at very small font sizes. Graphics and photo quality is generally good, with some blockiness in gradients. Most print quality is determined by the quality of the transmission, however.

Overall, the Canon LC720 is an excellent choice for users who need a strong dedicated fax machine, but those looking for good print quality will also need a dedicated laser printer.
