Canon LBP6780dn Printer Review
The Canon imageCLASS LBP6780dn is designed for small offices that tend to do a large volume of printing. It can reach speeds of up to 42 pages per minute, with duplexing included, and its paper capacity is upgradeable for future expansion. High prices for imageCLASS LBP6780dn printer toner can make it a bit costly to operate, however.
As an upgrade from the LBP6780 base model, the LBP6780dn includes duplexing and ethernet networking for easier sharing in a small office. The basic paper handling configuration includes a 500-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Adding up to two more 500-sheet trays can expand it to a maximum of 1,600 pages that should be more than enough for the average small office environment.
Despite its office-centric design, the machine inherits a few features commonly found in home devices, such as mobile printing from smartphones and tablets with the Canon Mobile Printing app. It also has a front USB port for direct printing from thumb drives and other storage devices. Of course, the 5-line LCD doesn't offer previewing, from the control panel, so users will need to know what files they wish to print from the filenames. Nevertheless, it is a convenient feature.
Replacing toners could take a big hit on the office budget. The Canon LBP6780dn toner cartridges are quite expensive compared to its competition. Even with a large capacity of 12,500 pages each, the imageCLASS LBP6780dn toner cartridges higher cost per page than most models in its class. Users may also have trouble finding compatible Canon LBP6780dn toner supplies, instead being stuck with higher OEM prices.
The LBP6780dn has a lot going for it, from fast speeds to a decent amount of expandability. Unfortunately, the high cost of Canon LBP6780dn toner is enough to make it a less appealing choice when held up against its competition.
