The Canon L300 is a fax machine and monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It is both a full-featured fax machine and a solid laser printer, but faxing and printer speeds are both disappointingly slow.

While a true all-in-one machine offers virtually every function or feature an office would need, that can sometimes be overkill for a smaller office or a home office. Some users would rather use separate machines for different tasks, or they don't need some functions. The Canon Fax L300 is a fax machine that can also serve as a basic laser printer and copy machine.

As a fax machine, the Canon Fax L300 has a robust feature set. It can store up to 120 locations for speed dial, has a memory capacity of up to 42 pages, and has features such as redialing and delayed transmission. Unfortunately, its main limitation is its slow faxing speed. The machine is only capable of transmitting at a maximum of 14.4 kbps.

The Canon L300 can do some light copying, but scanning resolution is limited to 400 dpi, so copies don't have the sharpness of a dedicated copy machine.

Canon L300 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,700 pages, so users won't have to replace the printer cartridge often. The Canon L300 toner cartridges are also very affordably-priced, resulting in a low cost per page, making the Canon L300 a very economical printer.

As a printer, the Canon L300 is functional, but its quality and speed are not up to par with dedicated laser printers, or even all-in-one machines. Printing resolution is limited to 400 dpi, so quality is not as sharp as expected. Print speed is very slow as well, at only 4 pages per minute.

Overall, the Canon L300 is below average at every one of its functions. While its faxing features are well-designed, its slow transmission speeds are a serious drawback to productivity.
