As this is a monochrome laser unit, only a single Canon L240 toner cartridge is required for operation and will need to be maintained throughout the machine's lifespan. Each FAX L240 toner cartridge has a maximum capacity of 2,700 prints. Once the starter printer toner that is supplied by the manufacturer runs out, replacement toners can be purchased from various online vendors. Compatible Canon L240 toner is produced by third party vendors, which is a more affordable alternative to OEM.

Though the intent of this laser all-in-one is not to print photos or intricate graphics, the FAX L240 toner can still render a professional quality to ensure crisp text documents. There is an LCD on the top panel for adjusting settings and following progress of tasks. The paper capacity is not large, but the ‘U' shaped paper path minimizes the overall size of the L240. Its compact frame makes it easy for users to fit in limited spaces.

The fax function operates with a Super G3 modem, which on average processes faxes in as little as 3 seconds. There are 100 speed dial options, 24 one-touch dials and a memory that can hold up to 256 pages. The copier can make up to 99 duplicates per order and the scanner has the ability to generate documents of the highest quality.
