The Canon FAXPHONE L100 laser fax machine emulates the design elements and features from more advanced devices, but in a fairly compact frame that conserves space in a small office. It can also copy at 12 pages per minute and print at up to 19 pages per minute, but the low cost of Canon L100 printer toner might actually be the best reason to choose it over the competition.

There is no doubt the L100 focuses on high-speed faxing capabilities, with support for Super G3 speeds that can send or receive a fax in as little as 3 seconds per page. It also comes with a telephone handset as a standard feature. Up to 30 one-touch speed dial numbers can be programmed for easy access, with another 100 coded dials available in the address book.

Printing and copying are fast as well, though somewhat limited. Typical copy features like reduction and enlargement from 50-200% and density adjustment are available. Users won't get as many printing options as they might with other devices, but a resolution of up to 1200x600 dpi provides fairly sharp quality. The Toner Save mode applies to all functions when enabled, and can help users conserve the use of FAXPHONE L100 toner considerably.

Replacement toners have fairly large capacities, with the single black Canon L100 toner cartridge providing as many as 2,000 pages before running empty. Coupled together with a low purchase price, this gives FAXPHONE L100 toner cartridges a very low cost per page, and ensures that Canon L100 toner won't need to be replaced too frequently.

The print and copy features may be a little limited, but the Canon L100 is worth considering for its advanced fax capabilities alone. The extra functions are icing no the cake for buyers who are primarily interested in cost-effective faxing.
