Canon iX5000 Printer Review

The Canon PIXMA iX5000 inkjet printer targets somewhat of a niche with photo printing that will appeal to photographers, but solid document printing for small office users as well. Both will benefit from solid ESAT speeds of around 7.6 images per minute in monochrome and 5.3 images per minute in color, and most will be pleased with the affordable Canon iX5000 printer ink supplies.

On the photo side of things, the 4800x1200 dpi resolution combined with the ChromaLife1002 system of PIXMA iX5000 printer ink produces excellent prints at photo lab quality. A PictBridge port on the front of the device can even take photos from a digital camera for direct printing without a PC. The rear USB interface can be connected to either a Windows or Mac computer.

The software bundled with the machine such as Easy-WebPrint can help users print great images and pages from the web, and the Easy-PhotoPrint software is excellent for touching up and organizing photos for printing.

The machine weighs a little over 20 pounds, which makes it easy to move and to set up, and it has a compact frame that won't consume a desk surface. The 150-sheet paper tray should be more than enough for a single user.

The cost of OEM PIXMA iX5000 ink cartridges is actually fairly affordable, though users may need to replace them often, with color supplies that only provide up to 280 pages. Compatible Canon iX5000 ink cartridges make a better choice in most cases, costing around 1/3 of the price of OEM supplies and offering the same output quality.

The iX5000 is a very impressive inkjet that could be appealing to photographers and small office users alike, or anything in between. Its print speeds are very good, as is its output quality, and third-party Canon iX5000 ink makes it a very good value.
