It has the ability to create high-quality graphics and text documents at a quick enough speed to maintain a level of productivity that is desired by most offices. It may be a bit overweight at 86 pounds, but seems light compared to other large format machines that can weigh up to 150 pounds. The iPF500 has a frame that is 32.2x28.9x12.4 inches, meaning it stands tall and wide.

Containing 5 Canon iPF500 ink cartridges, which hold cyan, magenta, yellow, matte black and photo black printer ink, the colors this inkjet printer can attain are professional. The imagePROGRAF iPF500 ink can produce a maximum resolution of 2400x1200 dpi without compromising the output rate. The printing is done through the FINE technology which uses over 15,000 nozzles to dispense the Canon iPF500 ink in 4 picoliter droplets on the paper.

When the printer ink starts to run out for any color, replacements are available from Canon or online from third party vendors. The third party prices for replacement imagePROGRAF iPF500 ink cartridges will be a bit less than directly from the manufacturer, but remanufactured ink is just not an option for this machine.

The built-in memory is 128 MB, Windows and Mac operating systems both work with it, and the iPF500 is Energy Star qualified, meaning it is environmentally aware.
