Canon iP1000 Printer Review
After numerous budget-priced color inkjet printers have hit the market in the last few years, consumers may have begun to expect low quality and many compromises in a unit as inexpensive as the Canon PIXMA iP1000. But in fact, it offers the best of both worlds. It is very affordably-priced, and still offers solid speeds and good output quality. Speeds are around 14 pages per minute in black and white and 11 in color. Even printer ink costs are lower than expected, thanks to the affordable Canon iP1000 ink system.
The iP1000 won't win any awards for innovative design, as it utilizes a simple rectangular box shape with a loading tray that folds in to take up less space. It is reasonably compact and lightweight, however, which is what most home users will appreciate. Instead of sacrificing essential features, the iP1000 does away with rarely-used options like duplexing (two-sided printing) and the ability to print on CDs or DVDs. Manual two-sided printing is still an option, however.
Unlike the printer ink system of previous inkjet models, the Canon iP1000 ink cartridges have a smaller droplet size of 5 picoliters. This allows PIXMA iP1000 ink cartridges to produce even finer details and the result is smoother images. PIXMA iP1000 ink is very affordable, and comes in fairly large capacities, so they don't need to be replaced frequently.
In a review of the iP1000, CNET Australia mainly praised the unit for its low upfront price, and they also found its print quality to be quite impressive. They also like the high quality of Canon iP1000 ink.
Overall, the Canon iP1000 is certainly not the fastest or most full-featured model on the market, but its great price and solid performance make it a good buy for users who don't need those features.
