Canon iPF780 Printer Review

Wide format inkjet printers are generally very expensive and very large, but the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF780 breaks the mold. It has a fairly compact design, and not only is its purchase price low, but Canon iPF780 printer ink is very affordable as well. Despite this, it can handle media up to 36 inches wide, and it can output an Arch E (33.1x46.8 inches) print in less than 41 seconds.

The iPF780 is geared mostly toward CAD drawings, but can also handle technical design documents and even basic photo printing. Its Economy mode is perfect for making draft copies before the final print, saving on imagePROGRAF iPF780 printer ink in the process. It includes a plug-in for AutoCAD and integrates with PosterArtist for easy output options, and even supports cloud printing from Canon's Direct Print & Share service.

Compared to wide format inkjet models that take up nearly twice the depth, the iPF780 is quite compact. It measures just 35xx42x51 inches and includes a stand, weighing only 150 pounds total. The unit supports media up to 36 inches wide, cut sheet media up to 63 inches long, and roll feed media up to 59 feet long. A basket is included to catch media as it finishes as well.

In addition to the standard cyan, magenta, yellow, and black Canon iPF780 ink cartridges, the system also uses a matte black supply for added flexibility. The imagePROGRAF iPF780 ink cartridges are also designed to produce wide color gamut in red and orange spectrums, for cleaner technical documents.

Considering its versatile media support, excellent print quality, and speeds, it seems unfair to label the iPF780 as an entry-level model. Its low price is very appealing, however, extras like cloud printing make it easier to use, and the low cost of Canon iPF780 ink will keep it affordable over the long run.
