Canon D860 Printer Review
The Canon imageCLASS D860 laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Its fast speeds, excellent copy quality, and economical toner costs make it a great fit for a busy office on a budget.
Despite a lot of functionality, robust feature set, and large paper capacity, the Canon D860 laser printer manages to be relatively compact. It measures 15.1 inches by 24.5 inches by 17.4 inches, and weighs 52.9 pounds, allowing it to fit in fairly small spaces if necessary. Paper capacity is larger than average for the price, with a 500-sheet main drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray.
The unit can function as a standalone laser copier, without the need to connect it to a computer. The copy function has a solid set of features and options, such as zooming from 50% to 200%, 2 on 1 copies, and collating. When it is time to print, it can be connected via USB or parallel port. It does not include any built-in networking support, though it can be shared across a network with either a print server or a host computer.
Canon imageCLASS D860 toner cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages, and incorporate a single cartridge system which includes all consumables in a single laser toner cartridge. However, the D860 also has a toner save mode, which helps to get more pages from each Canon D860 toner cartridge. The printer toner cartridge is conveniently located and easy to replace.
Print quality is very impressive. Text is sharp and defined, even at small font sizes. Graphics and photo quality, even for copies, is above average. Overall, users looking for a great standalone copier with the bonus of an excellent laser printer will be very impressed by the Canon D860. Its economical toner usage and costs give it a very low cost of ownership as well.
