Canon D780 Printer Review
The Canon imageCLASS D780 laser printer is designed for the home or small office environment. Its fast speeds and large paper capacity are well-suited for heavy users, and its robust feature set can handle nearly any task a user can throw at it.
The Canon D780 laser printer can print, copy, and fax. Each of its functions are quite well-designed and intuitive. The unit has a 30-page automatic document feeder for faxing or copying multiple pages at once quickly and easily. It also has a very large paper capacity for the price, with 500 sheets in the main drawer and 100 sheets in the multipurpose tray. The large paper tray accounts for some of its bulky frame, as the unit measures 15.1 inches by 24.5 inches by 17.4 inches (HWD) and weighs 52.9 pounds. Users will have to judge for themselves whether it is compact enough for their space.
It is also a very robust fax machine, and both faxing and copying can be done in standalone mode, without the need for a computer. It supports faxing transmission speeds up to 33.6 kbps, and has a 255 page fax memory, which can store incoming pages when the unit runs out of paper.
Canon D780 toner cartridges use a single-cartridge system that combines toner and drum into one printer toner cartridge. Canon imageCLASS D780 toner cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages, which is less than competing products such as Canon C106 toner, but users can get more pages from each laser toner cartridge by using its toner save mode, with only a slight decrease in print quality.
Print and copy speeds are quite fast, at around 16 pages per minute, and are impressive for the price. Print quality is excellent, with sharp and detailed text that is readable at small font sizes. Graphics and photo quality is good as well.
Overall, the Canon D780 is a solid standalone copy machine that also happens to produce excellent laser prints. Its fast faxing speeds round out an excellent feature set.
