Canon D680 Printer Review
The Canon D680 is a monochrome laser printer and copier designed for the home or small office user, like the Canon ICD340 toner printer. Its fast speeds and excellent print quality will keep things moving in the office, and its single cartridge system is convenient and affordable.
The Canon imageCLASS D680 laser printer can copy, print, and fax. Strangely, it doesn't support scanning, which would have rounded out its feature set nicely. Copy functions and features are particularly robust, and seem to be the main focus of the machine. It can function as both a standalone copier and standalone fax machine, without needing to be connected to a computer. It supports zooming from 50% to 200%, with presets and 1% increments available. It also support collating, 2 on 1 copies, and has both manual and automatic exposure settings for getting the best copy possible. The 30-sheet automatic document feeder makes it easy to copy up to 30 sheets at a time quickly and easily.
As a fax machine, it performs quite well also. It supports transmission speeds up to 33.6 kbps and has a page memory of up to 255 pages. It can also store 12 speed dials and up to 100 numbers in memory.
Canon imageCLASS D680 toner cartridges use a single cartridge system that combines the toner and drum into one laser toner cartridge. This is a convenient solution which means the printer toner cartridge is the only consumable that the user must replace. Canon D680 toner cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages.
Print and copy speed is around 13 pages per minute, which is impressive for the price. Text quality is very sharp and detailed, though graphics and photos are only average.
Overall, the Canon D680 laser printer makes a great choice as a standalone copier or fax machine, but will appeal to users who also want a high-quality laser printer. Lack of networking support might be an issue for some users.
