The Canon 2050 is a fax machine and laser printer designed for the home or small office user. Its robust fax features combined with printing and copying capabilities make it an excellent choice for a small office on a budget and sets it beyond the competition.

While the Canon LaserCLASS 2050 isn't a true all-in-one machine, as it lacks scanning capabilities, it still has the ability to provide most of the functionality a small office would need, and all in a very compact and affordable package. The Canon 2050 can fax, print, and copy. Of the three, its copying function is probably the most limited, mainly because it can only copy documents that can be fed into the automatic document feeder, as it has no flatbed scanning surface. The Canon 2050's scanner is also not as robust as most copy machines, as it is made for faxing, resulting in copies with less clarity than one would get from a true copy machine.

As a fax machine, the Canon LaserCLASS 2050 is impressive. It features Super G3 transmission speeds of up to 33.6 kbps, but can also slow down transmission to accommodate slower machines, and can transmit up to 3 pages per minute. Its 4 MB of memory can store up to 256 pages for later retrieval.

The Canon 2050 toner cartridges are very easy to replace, and have a capacity of 2,700 pages, so they will not have to be replaced often. If a higher page yield is required, look at the Canon MF6550 toner printer. The Canon 2050 toner cartridges are also very affordably-priced, making the Canon 2050 a very economical choice.

As a printer, the Canon 2050 is adequate, but may be too slow for many users, at 6 pages per minute. Print quality is quite good, however, especially for text. Graphics quality is decent, but a bit below average for most laser printers.

Overall, the Canon 2050 makes a great choice for a small office on a budget, particularly one that needs a dedicated fax, but also wants to occasionally print and copy.
