The Brother MFC-J4310DW is marketed as a "business smart inkjet" printer, and this is a pretty adequate way to describe it. Sometimes referred to as simply the MFC-J4310, this all-in-one model includes some of the best features of consumer-level printers, such as mobile printing, while offering a fast print speed of up to 33 pages per minute for black and 25 pages per minute for color that could be a good fit for a small office.

On the user-friendly side of things, the MFC-J4310DW has a 1.8-inch touchscreen display that makes controlling its different functions very intuitively. The interface is also designed to show only the necessary information at any one time, avoiding unnecessary clutter.

The machine is pretty compact, with dimensions of 6.4x18.9x11.4 inches, and it weighs only 17.6 pounds, even with the Brother MFC-J4310DW printer ink included. Its paper tray holds and feeds paper in landscape orientation, which is an interesting feature that allows for less depth in its design.

Both automatic duplexing and wireless networking are included, and users are provided multiple methods of printing from a variety of different mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets. It supports Brother's own iPrint&Scan app, as well as Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint.

For a color inkjet model, the price of Brother MFC-J4310DW ink cartridges is a little higher than some in its class, but they are available in high-capacity versions that lower the cost per page. Each of the high-capacity Brother MFC-J4310DW ink cartridges provides up to 600 pages, so they won't need to be replaced too frequently.

While it isn't as capable as a full office machine, the MFC-J4310DW takes a few steps in that direction. The result is a home or small office model that can provide some of the functionality of a business machine at a fraction of the cost.
