The Brother MFC-J425W is a color inkjet printer that was intended to be used as a small office printer. Though it does not have an overly impressive output rate, the high quality of prints and multiple functions make it an ideal machine for work environments that have limited space, but versatile needs. The MFC-J425W can send and receive faxes, make copies and scan documents to files or directly to email.

The copy machine has resizing options that allow users to shrink images down to 25% or enlarge an image up to 400% of the original size. As many as 99 copies can be made with a single push of the ‘copy' button at a standard resolution of 1200x1200 dpi. The scanner has a 36-bit internal color depth and an interpolated resolution of 19200x19200 dpi. With a transmission rate of 14.4 kbps and Super G3 compatibility, the fax machine can send or receive faxes in less than 5 seconds. It also has a 170-page memory and a maximum resolution of 204x196 dpi.

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black Brother MFC-J425W ink cartridges are needed to use this unit. When replacement printer ink is available, it can be found online in OEM or compatible forms. Standard capacity Brother MFC-J425W ink cartridges have a maximum yield of 300 pages while the high-capacity versions can deliver as many as 600 prints before expiring. The maximum resolution that can be created by the Brother MFC-J425W ink is 1200x6000 dpi, which will produce clear text and vivid images.

Connected by USB or parallel port and compatible with all major operating systems, this inkjet printer will work in any office. The 100-sheet input tray and 50-sheet output tray holds various paper types, such as envelopes, transparencies and labels.
