Brother MFC-9500 Printer Review
The Brother MFC-9500 compact monochrome laser printer that is affordable to use, but its limited speeds could be a problem for some buyers. It can reach maximum speeds of only 6 pages per minute, but it also handles faxing and basic copying. Users won't have to spend a lot on Brother MFC-9500 printer toner to keep it running, however, so its affordability could be a big draw.
One of the first obstacles for printing is the fact that the MFC-9500 includes only a parallel port. This could be an issue for those with modern PCs and only USB ports for a connection option. Given the unit's capabilities for walk-up copying and faxing, however, some users might not even need the printing feature.
The machine is fairly compact, measuring just 9.8x18x13.1 inches, and it weighs a little less than 20 pounds, even with the Brother MFC-9500 toner supply installed. The input paper capacity is decent, at 200 sheets. The limitations of the 600 dpi printing resolution will be most apparent when printing, but it should be enough for solid text and graphics output, especially for home users who don't necessarily require the sharpest professional quality.
When toners are needed, users have the option of choosing compatible Brother MFC-9500 toner cartridges to help keep costs down. With a yield of around 2,200 pages for each Brother MFC-9500 toner cartridge, users won't need to constantly replace the supply, even in a fairly busy small office.
It is difficult to recommend the MFC-9500 for the majority of buyers, given its slow speeds and the lack of a USB port, which will likely require an adapter. Those looking for a simple, walk-up fax or copy machine might find it appealing, however, if for no other reason than its low operating costs.
