It weighs just over 21 pounds and measures a compact 15x15x10 inches. So not only will it be easy to carry out of the store, it will be simple to set up on any small desk or table top. The one Bother HL-5380 toner cartridge holds black printer toner and allows this unit to deliver crisp and professional black-and-white text documents.

The standard paper capacity is 300 sheets made up of one main tray that holds 250 pages and a multimedia tray for things like envelopes, labels and cards, which holds 50 pages. As the HL-5380 was intended to grow with a budding company, additional trays are available to increase the paper capacity to 800 sheets. The strong modem helps produce up to 30 pages per minute and the Brother-HL 5380 toner can print with a maximum resolution of 1200x1200 dpi.

Home users with only one main PC will probably prefer to connect to the printer through a standard parallel or USB cord. However, in a work environment an ethernet connection would be preferable because it provides a networking atmosphere. At its most basic form, the HL-5380 has 32 MB of memory. This should be enough for a small work group, but as the volume increases, the memory can be upgraded to 544 MB.

The standard Brother HL-5380 toner cartridges can last up to 3,000 prints but a high yield version is also available the can produce 8,000 pages before expiration. Replacements can be purchased directly from Brother, or remanufactured printer toner is provided by third party vendors online. The Brother HL-5380 is an affordable laser printer for the home or small office, providing speeds of up to 32 pages per minute. Its high-quality 1200 dpi printing engine produces sharp text and graphics, and it includes both wired networking and duplexing features.

With the HL-5380 powered on, open the access panel by pressing the center button on the top and rotating the panel downward. Grab the handle to remove the drum and cartridge assembly by pulling it toward you.

Set the assembly on some paper in case of spills, and press the small lever on the right side to release the Brother HL-5380 toner cartridge, then lift to remove it.

Unpack the new HL-5380 toner cartridge, taking it out of the packing materials and removing it from the bag. Tilt the cartridge back and forth a few times to help the toner inside distribute more evenly, then gently pry the protective cover to remove it.

Insert the new Brother HL-5380 cartridge into the assembly, tilting the front side slightly downward, then locking it into place. Spin the assembly around to the back so that you can clean the corona wire by sliding the small tab back and forth about 5 times. Make sure to snap the tab back into its starting position when you are finished.

Place the cartridge and drum assembly back into the opening in the front of the printer, aligning it with the guide rails, then press firmly. You can then close the access panel.

You are now ready to resume printing with your Brother HL-5380 laser printer.
