The Brother HL-5340D laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Its fast printing speeds and large paper capacity offer more than most of the competition, at a very affordable price.

The Brother HL-5340D laser printer, (also known as the HL-5340) has built-in automatic duplexing, a rare feature in a printer at its price. This allows users to print on both sides of pages, and can save a significant amount in paper costs if it is enabled as the default printing option. Speaking of paper, its paper capacity is also impressive for the price, with a 250-sheet main tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. The multipurpose tray is particularly convenient for users who frequently use more than one type of paper, as it means not having to empty the main tray before loading an alternate media type. The multipurpose tray also incorporates a straight-through paper path, allowing it to accommodate thick media that cannot be bent.

The unit can connect via parallel or USB 2.0, but does not have built-in ethernet support. Its 16 MB of standard memory can be expanded to a maximum of 512 MB for users who do graphics-heavy printing or large documents.

Brother HL-5340D toner cartridges are very affordably-priced. The laser toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages for each standard cartridge, and 8,000 pages for each high-yield printer toner cartridge. The included toner save mode will reduce toner costs even lower.

Print quality is excellent, due to its 1200 dpi printing engine. The result is extremely sharp text and very good graphics quality. Print speed is very fast for the price, at up to 32 pages per minute.

The Brother HL-5340D is mainly designed for personal or small office use, though it does provide quick speeds of up to 32 pages per minute. Its 300-sheet paper capacity includes a 50-sheet bypass tray, and users can add up to two more trays to handle higher printing volumes.

Start with the printer turned on, and press the center button at the top of the machine to open the access panel. As you rotate the panel down, you will see a small handle, grab it and pull the assembly toward you.

The Brother HL-5340D toner cartridge needs to be separated from the drum assembly. Press the small lever on the right side of the assembly, then lift the cartridge up and out to remove it.

Open the box for your new HL-5340D cartridge and remove bubble wrap and other materials, and carefully remove the plastic bag. Take a moment to rock the cartridge back and forth a few times. This helps distribute the toner. You can then pry the plastic protector off the cartridge carefully.

Insert the new Brother HL-5340D cartridge into the assembly, and snap it down into place. Turn the assembly around to the back, and slide the small tab back and forth several times to clean the corona wire before you reinstall it. Snap the small tab back into its starting position.

With the assembly prepared, insert it back into the printer, and give it a firm press to make sure it is seated properly.
