When it comes to compact printers, people tend to think mostly of inkjet units. However, there are some laser printers that are compact enough to fit in a small corner of the office and take up little space while being the powerhouse work environments need to rely on. The Brother HL-2220 weighs less than 15 pounds and has a frame of 7.2x14.5x14.2 inches. This will be simple to install, move around freely and fit on any desk or table top.
Though it is a small force, the HL-2220 can print up to 21 pages per minute. It is a monochrome unit, meaning it does not have color capabilities, but for offices that print only standard text documents, it will work well. The single Brother HL-2220 toner cartridge that is full of black printer toner can only reach a maximum resolution of 2400x600 dpi. This will create invoices and order forms that are professional enough to rival large, corporate companies.
One of the nicest features of this machine is the TonerSave mode. When this mode is activated, Brother HL-2220 toner use is automatically regulated as to exert an unnecessary amount per print. This is done to conserve toner, but will not negatively affect the quality of each document. Eventually, though, all toners run low and replacements will be needed. When that day comes, budgeted users should look into remanufactured Brother HL-2220 toner cartridges. They have the same performance levels but cost much less.
There is a 250-sheet paper tray the can hold either letter or legal paper. However, for thicker documents, there is a manual-feed slot. So, if the office is planning on printing on envelopes, the HL-2220 may not be the most convenient choice. Overall, the Brother HL-2220 is a reliable and efficient monochrome printer with great quality.

The Brother HL-2220 is a compact monochrome laser printer designed for personal use. It can output up to 21 pages per minute, and connects via USB to a single computer. Although it lacks network sharing features, it has a 250-sheet paper tray that is a good fit for individuals, and a Toner Save mode can help reduce operating costs.
Although the model shown differs in appearance, the replacement process is the same.
When you notice the toner light on the printer’s top panel remains lit, it is time to replace your Brother HL-2220 toner cartridge. The first step is to open the access panel by pulling it toward you and rotating it downward. You will see a small handle that you can use to pull the cartridge and drum assembly out of the machine.
Lay down some paper or plastic to protect your surface, then set the assembly on top of it. Press the small lever on the side to unlock the cartridge, then lift it up and toward you.
Open the box for your new Brother HL-2220 cartridge, remove it, and remove the bubble wrap and the bag. Before removing the cover, take a moment to rock the cartridge back and forth. This helps loosen and distribute the toner for better results. You can then remove the plastic cover.
Returning to the drum assembly, insert the new HL-2220 toner cartridge into it, ensuring that it snaps down firmly and locks into place. At the back of the assembly, you can clean the corona wire by sliding the small tab back and forth several times, then you can return the tab to its original position.
Place the entire assembly back into the printer, pressing firmly to make sure it is properly installed. You can then close the front access panel.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Brother HL-2220 printer.
