The Brother HL-1670N laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Despite its affordable price, its fast speeds and great feature set rival more expensive models. Lack of expandability might be a problem for a growing office.

The Brother HL-1670N, also known as the HL-1670, has quite a few surprises under its sleeve. With its low price, buyers might be expecting a budget printer, but this unit has features that more expensive models don't match. First, it has more paper capacity than one might expect, with 250 sheets of capacity in the main drawer, and a multipurpose tray that can hold an additional 100 sheets. Furthermore, the paper capacity can be expanded with an additional 250-sheet tray, for a total of 600 sheets.

The unit also includes a backlit screen, built-in duplexing (two-sided printing) and built-in ethernet networking, which allows it to be easily connected and shared across a network of users. With its networking support and expandability, it would make a great choice for a small office expecting to grow in the future.

Brother HL-1670N toner cartridges can be a bit hard to replace, but with a little practice, it is doable. The printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 3,300 pages, but high-yield laser toner cartridges are available with a capacity of 6,500 pages. Users can save more money by using less-expensive third-party compatible cartridges, reducing the cost per page significantly. These cartridges will be more affordable than a lot of the competition.

Print quality is excellent. Text is sharp, even, and detailed. It is also very readable at small font sizes. Graphics quality is average for a laser, but still quite usable. Print speed is also very good, at around 16 pages per minute.
