The Brother 8350P (also known as the 8350) is a monochrome laser printer and fax machine in one. The unit should appeal to small or medium offices that need simple monochrome printing and faxing, but don't want the expense and upkeep of separate devices. Its price is very affordable for its class, and the low cost of printer toner makes it very economical for the long term. Print speed is a bit slow, at around 12 pages per minute.

The 8350P takes up more vertical space than the average laser printer, but is otherwise fairly compact in its design. It measures 12.7 inches by 14.8 inches by 17.4 inches (HWD) and weighs only 26.5 pounds. In addition to the printing and faxing features, the unit can also handle basic copying at speeds up to 12 pages per minute. The automatic document feeder can hold up to 30 pages for faxing and copying, and the input paper tray can hold up to 250 sheets.

Where the machine really shines is in the low cost of Brother 8350P toner. Standard Brother 8350P toner cartridges have a page yield of 3,000 pages and are very affordable. For a bit more money, however, the high-yield Brother 8350P toner cartridges have a capacity of 6,000 pages, for a much more economical choice. Using compatible toners will lower costs even more.

Compared to other models from Brother, such as the HL-5100 series, the 8350P is more expensive, but includes fax and copy functions. Its print quality is very sharp and compares well with other models, but its print speeds tend to lag behind somewhat, compared to 20 pages per minute with the HL-5100 series.

Buyers who want a solid and full-featured fax machine that is also a good laser printer will find a lot to like with the 8350P. The affordable upfront price and the low cost of Brother 8350P toner make it a very economical choice for almost any office environment, as long as the slow printing speeds are not a major concern.
