Xerox Phaser 6120 | 6115MFP Toner

The Xerox Phaser 6120 is a color laser printer that is fairly priced at under $500, and offers efficient and high quality printing.  Offering high-grade features such as Postscript 3 and many upgrade options, the 6120 is a feature-rich machine even though it does not support duplex printing.  Also a good choice is the Xerox 6120/n, which is identical to the Phaser 6120 but is network ready with an Ethernet card already installed.  The Xerox 6120 comes standard with a 300 MHz processor intended to help speed up print processing.  However, in terms of actually speed tests, the 6120 is an average performer.  Compared with other printers in the same price class, it is among the fastest on the Word text tests, among the slowest on the Photoshop test, and just about the same as the others in the PDF test.

The Xerox 6120 toner cartridges have excellent color output when printing photographic images, rendering color images with color clarity almost on par with ink jet printers.  Text printing is precise and legible, but tends to print a bit heavy.

Four Phaser 6120 toner cartridges come already installed in the machine and are easily changeable, fitting nicely with the imaging drum under the top cover.  The toner cartridges that come with the Xerox 6120 upon purchase will produce average page yields for start up toners in this class of printer.  However, toner cartridge upgrade options are available, and high capacity toners can print 4,500 pages at 5% coverage, which is 3 times the amount of the standard cartridges.  The high capacity toner cartridges can be found using part numbers 113R00693 (cyan), 113R00695 (magenta), 113R00694 (yellow) and 113R00692 (black).  The Xerox Phaser 6120 toner cartridges are also used in the Xerox Phaser 6115 MFP, a multi-function version of the 6120 not covered in this review.

All around the Xerox Phaser 6120 is a solid and affordable printer providing consistent and precise toner cartridge color output.  The 6120 is comparable in overall performance to the Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W, the Lexmark C524, and the HP 2550 printer models, all of which provide good value for the price.
