The Xerox Docuprint P1210 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the personal home or small office user and uses toner rather than ink. It has good printing speeds and excellent print quality, but it is more expensive than competing units.
As the P1210 is designed to be a single-user printer, compact size is likely to be an important factor for most buyers. The P1210 measures 9.8 inches by 14.2 inches by 16.1 inches and weighs 24 pounds, so it is not very tall, but its relatively large footprint may be a problem for some buyers. It is not bulky by any means, but may be too large to share a desk with.
Paper handling is more than adequate, with 250 sheets in the main tray, and 100 sheets in a multipurpose tray. Its multipurpose tray is a bit of a luxury for a personal printer, allowing users to load an alternate paper type without having to clear out the main tray first.
Many users switch from inkjet to laser printers for their economical printing costs, and the P1210 doesn't disappoint in this respect. Xerox P1210 toner cartridges include both Xerox toner and a printing drum in one unit, providing a fresh drum each time the cartridge is changed. This usually results in cleaner prints, though it raises the cost of toner cartridges slightly. Xerox P1210 toner come in two capacities. The standard toner cartridge has a capacity of 3,100 pages, while the high-yield cartridge has a capacity of 6,100 pages, resulting in a very low per-page cost. The printer also has a Toner Save mode, which reduces the amount of toner used per page.
Print quality is excellent, with sharp, detailed text and good graphics quality. The printer's 4 MB of RAM may not be enough for very graphics-intensive prints, but can be upgraded to 68 MB. Print speed is around 12 pages per minute.
Overall, the Xerox P1210 is a solid personal printer, but its higher cost and slower speeds make competing units a better value. Economical printing is a plus.
