Ink jets are slow, need expensive paper to produce really impressive prints and the ink dries out quickly. Laser printers are fast and produce good quality print jobs, but are expensive. Xerox has a solution for these problems in the form of the Phaser 8400 printer series. The unit costs about as much as a black and white model and delivers color and monochrome documents at 24 pages per minute. The reason for this is powerful processors, great memory and solid printer ink technology of which most people have never heard. Xerox Phaser 8400 ink sticks are also very affordable. Compared to Xerox 8550 solid ink, Phaser 8560 ink, or Xerox C2424 ink, they have a lower cost per page.
The unit is available in multiple models with different features and paper capacities. These models are the 8400, 8400B, 8400N, 8400DP, 8400DX. N models include networking, and D models include duplexing.
The maximum memory allowed on the Phaser 8400 solid ink printer is 512 MB and has a standard 500 MHz processor to handle large complicated print demands. If you print large amounts of materials on a regular basis add the 20 GB storage hard disk and save your network or desktop memory. The ink technology also gives you your first page printed in less than 6 seconds, about 3 times faster than laserjets. The solid ink, by design, has a glossy finish and makes even the cheapest paper sing with colors and grey scaled documents.
In addition to great color coverage and top speeds for its class, the unit comes with PostScript compatibility and auto adjusting color to create better and more consistent documents page after page. The cost per page for color prints is a little higher than most laser jets, but far more economical than inkjets. The Xerox Phaser 8400 solid ink printer is an ingenious solution to the demands of small businesses and workgroups.
