Even though it is the slowest of its model line, the Xerox WorkCentre 7830 multifunction color laser printer still cranks out up to 30 pages per minute, and at a lower price point. It doesn't have the high duty cycle of the other models in its line, but it includes most of the same features, though Xerox 7830 printer toner can be a little expensive, even with high-capacity supplies.
The 7830 can print, scan, copy, fax, and email, covering the major functions an office will need. Its faxing is limited to documents sent from a computer, but walkup faxing is an optional upgrade. The unit has the lowest duty cycle in its line, but can still handle up to 90,000 images per month. An ethernet port and USB port are included as standard features, but an optional Wi-Fi adapter is available as well.
The internal 160 GB hard drive is an easy way to store important documents for later use, and sending scanned documents by email is an excellent modern alternative to faxing that can also save on paper and WorkCentre 7830 toner costs. Integration with the Xerox Mobile Print and PrintBack protocols make it easy to print from a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, even when away from the office.
The expense of replacing toners is one of the device's disappointing aspects. With four Xerox 7830 toner cartridges to replace, the cost can add up quickly. The color WorkCentre 7830 toner cartridges provide up to 15,000 pages, while the single black supply can provide up to 26,000 pages. Even with these yields, however, the cost per page for Xerox 7830 toner is higher than many competing models.
Even as the slower member of its model line, there is very little the 7830 laser printer can't handle. Its email and mobile printing capabilities bring a modern touch to office communication. Unfortunately, its high upfront price and expensive operating costs will likely strain an office budget.
