With a streamlined design and a small footprint, the Xerox WorkCentre 7220 multifunction laser printer can provide a lot of functionality without requiring too much space. Its output speeds are a little slow, at 20 pages per minute, but the combination of printing, faxing, scanning, copying, and emailing make it a versatile device with great color output, even if the Xerox 7220 printer toner is a bit more expensive than competing models.
With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 87,000 images per month, the 7220 can handle a large workload, but it isn't as bulky as one might expect, so it could even fit in a smaller office with high-volume needs. The base configuration includes two trays that hold up to 520 sheets each, with a 50-sheet bypass tray for extra media.
A 160 GB hard drive is included for storing documents, and scanned documents can be sent to an email address, stored on the hard drive, or even uploaded to the Xerox cloud service. Either is a cost-effective alternative to traditional faxing, saving WorkCentre 7220 toner and paper supplies, as well as offering better results in quality. Walk-up functions are available, and easy to control with the bright touchscreen display.
As with many color laser units, the cost of replacement toners is fairly high. Each of the three color Xerox 7220 toner cartridges provides a large yield of up to 15,000 pages, while the black supply provides up to 22,000. Unfortunately, the high price of WorkCentre 7220 toner cartridges means the cost per page is still higher than much of the competition.
For a busy small office all the way up to a medium-sized workgroup, the 7220 has the capacity and expandability to keep up. Its convenient document sharing, cloud support, and other extras will save a lot of time, but the high cost of Xerox 7220 toner supplies might be too much for smaller budgets.
