If you're looking for a fast, reliable printer for an office environment, the Xerox Phaser 6180 color laser printer may just fit the bill. Print quality is sharp and monochrome laser toner prints are fast, but average color print quality and a bulky design might make it less appealing. It is particularly suited to high-volume offices that need fast printing and high paper capacity. It prints 17 pages per minute in monochrome, and around 14 pages per minute in color.

Multiple models are available. The 6180 toner printer is the base model, the MFP6180 is a multifunction version, the 6180N adds networking, and the 6180DN adds duplexing and networking.

With a maximum paper capacity of 950, large offices won't be constantly reloading paper. The high capacity and speed come at a price, though, as the machine is rather large and bulky. While this will not likely be a problem in most offices, where space is not a concern, small business and home users may want to look at a smaller model, such as the Phaser 6125.

The unit offers the standard connection options of USB, ethernet, and parallel connections. Monochrome print quality is excellent, with average color print quality. Color prints show occasional banding and cross-hatching, though this is common with color lasers. Obviously, the majority of printing is meant to be monochrome, and there are always tradeoffs to be made.

Xerox Phaser 6180 toner cartridges are reasonably-priced for a color laser. Each high-yield color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 6,100 pages, and the single black printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 8,100 pages. Standard Xerox 6180 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,100 pages for both black and color. Monochrome prints are around 2.4 cents per page, and color prints are around 12.2 cents per page when using high-capacity Xerox toner cartridges. While not the least expensive print costs in its class, costs are reasonable, and balance well with the speed and print quality.

Overall, the Xerox Phaser 6180 color laser printer is an excellent choice for high-volume offices that value speed and monochrome print quality, and don't mind a unit with a little more bulk than the average. High-capacity toner cartridges are recommended, though, to keep per-page costs down.
