The Xerox Phaser 6128 color laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It has the capacity to keep up with a large number of users and some great convenience features, but its speed is a bit slow compared to similar models, like the Xerox Phaser ink printers.
In a world of boring beige box designs, the Xerox 6128 color laser printer, also referred to as the 6128MFP, stands out a bit with its sleek, modern look. Its almost-white exterior with a splash of cool blue adds a little aesthetic appeal that many manufacturers overlook. Measuring 16.7 inches by 20 inches by 23 inches (HWD) and weighing 64 pounds, it is not exactly compact. Its footprint is significant enough that it will need its own stand, but it is not overly bulky.
The unit can print, scan, copy, and fax. Each function is well-designed and fairly intuitive. Scans can be sent to a computer or to email, and emailing a scan can be done through its phone jack, a network cable, or the USB cable. It has a built-in ethernet port for sharing across the network, and an integrated web server that allows users to connect directly to the printer from any computer on the network to change settings or manage print jobs.
Costs for the Xerox 6128 toner cartridges are a bit on the high side, though this can be offset somewhat by its Toner Save mode, which reduces the amount of toner used per page. This does result in a slight loss in print quality, however, and since most models have a similar mode, this is not much of an advantage over the competition. Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,500 pages, and each black printer cartridge has a capacity of 3,100 sheets. It has more capacity than Xerox 6130 toner, by comparison, but a similar cost per page, so it's higher capacity does not significantly lower the cost of Xerox Phaser 6128 toner cartridges.
Print speeds are a little slow when pit against its competition. At 16 pages per minute for monochrome and 12 pages per minute for color, it is on the slow end of the scale for its class.
Overall, the Phaser 6128 offers excellent print quality and a number of nicely integrated features, but its slow speeds and high price tag for both the printer and a toner cartridge make competing models a better value.
