The Xerox Phaser 6115MFP color laser printer is a multifunction device with print, scan, copy, and fax functions. It is geared toward small to medium office environments. It has the ability to replace multiple office machines, but doesn't do as good a job at printing as many dedicated lasers.
The scanning capabilities of the Xerox 6115MFP color laser printer are a highlight. The unit includes a flatbed scanner capable of scanning up to legal size paper, larger than a typical multifunction scanner which can only scan up to A4. The flatbed scanning lid is also hinged to accommodate thick books and other non-flat media for scanning. In addition, the automatic document feeder allows for scanning or copying up to 50 pages at a time automatically, up to legal size paper. Network scanning is not available in the traditional sense, but instead the unit sends scans as emails directly from the unit. This is somewhat more cumbersome than a scanner that can send a file directly to a folder on a networked PC, but still usable. Two other models are also available, the 6115MFPN adds networking, and the 6115MFPD adds duplexing.
Print speed is somewhat disappointing, at around 12 pages per minute black and 5 pages per minute color. While multifunction machines generally print a little slower than dedicated lasers, these speeds are still fairly slow, especially for color. Print quality is very good, with sharp, clear text and decent color printing. Colors are reasonably accurate and don't exhibit many artifacts or problems. For professional quality prints, the Xerox Phaser ink printers should be evaluated. Photo printing is a weak spot, but this is typical with most lasers.
Xerox Phaser 6115MFP toner cartridges come in two sizes, standard capacity Xerox toner cartridges with capacities of 1,500 pages for each color laser toner cartridge, and high-capacity cartridges of 4,500 pages each. Replacing Xerox 6115MFP toner cartridges is a bit of a chore, as the cartridges are in a carousel formation and only one printer toner cartridge can be arranged to the front at once. When replacing more than one cartridge, the user must close the lid, press a button, and wait for the next cartridge to rotate to the front for replacement before opening the lid again. This is a time-consuming process.
Overall, the Xerox Phaser 6115MFP is an impressive multifunction device. Print quality is great, and its scanning features are a standout, though lack of true network scanning is a downside. Slow printing speeds and a time-consuming cartridge replacement process further hinder the unit's appeal.
