The Xerox Phaser 3150 is a monochrome laser printer designed for small or home office users. Its compact size and lightweight design make it an easy fit on a desk surface. The 3150 is somewhat pricier than most of its competition, some of which have more features and faster speeds. Cost per page tends to be higher as well, making it a difficult choice for buyers on a budget.
The main problem with a personal or small office printer that is more expensive than its competition is that these target markets tend to be more price-conscious than offices shopping for higher-end printers. It is worth noting, however, that the 3150 ships with a full-size toner cartridge. Many personal and small office printers come with a "starter" cartridge included, with less than full capacity of Xerox toner, so this is a nice bonus.
Print speed is good, at 22 pages per minute. Print quality is very good as well, with excellent text and decent graphics printing quality. Graphics prints tend to slow down print speed quite a bit, however, around 5 pages per minute. Installation is fairly easy, with illustrated instructions included. Software setup is also simple, requiring users to insert the disc and have the setup program walk you through the installation process.
One thing the 3150 lacks is expandability. It includes a 250 sheet input tray for paper, but there is no option for an extra tray to be added in the future. Also, the printer does not include duplexing and there is no upgrade option available for that either. While this may not be a downside for all buyers, many buyers like to have the ability to expand a printer as their needs grow in the future.
Overall, the Xerox Phaser 3150 is an excellent laser printer. Its higher price makes it difficult to recommend when many competing printers offer more features and options for a lower price.
