Designed for a busy small office or a personal user, the Savin MLP26 is a solid laser printer, though its speeds of 26 pages per minute might be too slow for some buyers. It starts with a small paper capacity, but is quite expandable with upgrades, but the high cost of Savin MLP26 printer toner makes it quite a bit less appealing than competing models.
The MLP26 base model comes with a parallel port only, designed for personal use. Since this is a fairly outdated option, the MLP26N is a better choice for many offices, as it includes an ethernet port and network sharing features. The input paper capacity is a bit anemic, with only a 250-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet bypass tray. Users can add up to two more trays, however, for a maximum of 1,350 sheets of input capacity.
The MLP26 occupies a very small footprint, which is appealing for small offices. It is 12 inches high, and its footprint measures only 18.8x17.2 inches. Best of all, the footprint doesn't expand even as extra paper trays are added. Other upgrade options include a shift tray for sorting, an envelope feeder, and a 4-bin mailbox.
As it is with many laser models, the cost of toners will define the unit's overall value. This is where the high cost of Savin MLP26 toner cartridges becomes an issue. Even with each Savin MLP26 toner cartridge providing a yield of 20,000 pages, the cost of replacement is much higher than those of competing units.
The MLP26 has a lot of things going for it, from solid output speeds and sharp quality to expandable paper capacity. Its other upgrade options are nice to have available as well, but the cost per page really suffers due to expensive Savin MLP26 toner.
