The Samsung SF-755 is a monochrome laser fax machine designed for the small to medium office. It features lightning fast faxing speeds and an economical TonerSave feature, but its multifunction capabilities leave a little to be desired, especially in comparison to the competition, such as the Canon MF6590 toner printer.
The SF-755 is clearly designed as a fax machine, though it includes the ability to print, scan, and copy as well. Unfortunately, none of these functions are as well-designed or well-implemented as the fax function. Printing is generally good, as it uses the same printing engine as the fax function. Some driver issues can crop up, often requiring the user to uninstall and reinstall the print drivers to alleviate the problem. Print quality, however, is quite impressive, and generally in line with more robust devices, like the HP P2035 toner printer.
Scanning capabilities are extremely limited, especially when compared to a dedicated scanner, or even a true multifunction device. Scanning resolution only goes up to 300 dpi, which may not be enough for more detailed scanning jobs. Scanning is also limited to grayscale. Lack of a flatbed scanning surface also limits the scanning function considerably, as only standard sheets can be fed through the unit.
Copying is a little better. The unit provides zooming options from 50-150%, and supports copying on varying sizes of paper. There is also a quick scanning option, which can scan a page in about 1 second and have the first copy printing in no time. Copy speed is the same as printing speed, around 16 pages per minute, not including scanning time. Unfortunately it only features black toner, unlike the upgraded Samsung CLP-315 toner printer, which has black, cyan, magenta and yellow.
The TonerSave feature is one of the highlights. When invoked, this feature limits toner usage for more economical printing. The machine is capable of saving up to 40% in toner usage with this feature with only a slight reduction in print quality.
Overall, the Samsung SF-755 is a fast and impressive fax machine with some nice additional features. Users looking for a good fax machine will be pleased, but don't expect its other functions to impress.
