The Samsung SF-560 is a fax and copy machine with fast speeds and large memory capacity, able to handle high-volume faxing needs. While it is sometimes referred to as a multifunction machine, it should be made clear that the SF-560 is not a true multifunction device in that it does not have the capability to print from a computer. True multifunction devices include the ability to print, scan, copy, and fax. As the SF-560 can neither scan nor print, it is not a true multifunction.
The fax features Super G3 speed of 33.6 kbps, the modern standard for fax machines. It can fax and copy at a resolution of 300 dpi. It has a rated transmission speed of around 3 seconds per page. It’s memory capacity is 2 mb, enough for 160 pages to be stored in memory. It has a speed dial memory of 80 numbers, and can program up to 20 numbers for one touch dialing.
While the SF-560 supports copying features, it is not a comprehensive copy machine. For example, there is no flatbed scanner for copying pages from books or other bulky items. Pages to be copied must be single sheets capable of being fed through the machine’s document feeder, which supports 20 sheets at a time. Also, at 300 dpi resolution, copies may be lower quality than more full-featured copy machines can produce. The unit supports reduction and enlargement from 50-150%, and can do collating and multiple copies up to 99 at a time. While its copy functions are adequate for many tasks, it is more of a bonus feature added on to a solid fax machine.
Overall, the SF-560 is a great fax and copy machine when the primary function is faxing. Copy features are a plus, but may not meet the needs of all users. At a time when true multifunction machines are becoming more common and more affordable, a dedicated fax machine may be less necessary.
