A multifunction printer is typically larger than a traditional laser jet printer, but saves you space and time by having all the functions in one unit. While the Samsung SCX-4100 is a multifunction printer it lacks the ability to fax, but with email faxing you may be able to bypass this issue. The unit prints and copies in black and white, sadly no color documents from this one. A color printer to compliment the SCX-4100 is the Samsung CLP-660 toner printer. Of course it does scan color documents.
The toner cartridges typically last around 3,000 copies but with the toner management software included with the SCX-4100 you can increase this anywhere from 30% to 40%. The fairly noisy SCX-4100 can print on various media types via the paper tray or the manual feed slot for transparencies and envelopes. Keep in mind that this machine has a lid that needs to open and an optional rear output that needs to be clear. It does tend to get hot during use and needs plenty of space.
The Samsung SCX-4100 comes with USB and parallel ports for connectivity and is compatible with Windows and Linux systems; Windows Vista users be sure to check with Samsung about compatibility before you purchase one. Sorry Mac users, none for you. Printing and copying speeds are at 15 pages per minute, not super fast but good for the less demanding user or office. You can take documents with unusual dimensions and using the Auto Fit function make it fit a standard sized piece of paper.
