The Samsung SCX-4016 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the small office environment. It includes the multifunction capabilities of printing, scanning, and copying. Print speed is fast and print quality is great, but lack of a fax function and an auto document feeder may turn some buyers towards the Canon MF6590 toner printer.
The SCX-4016 may fit into a fairly small niche. Users who are looking for a true multifunction all-in-one device may find its features limited, especially since it lacks faxing capabilities. Instead, the SCX-4016 may appeal more to the user who needs laser printing quality, but wants a little more functionality in their machine. For this, the SCX-4016 is well-suited.
Its scanning and copying features are well-implemented. Both can be invoked from the unit itself, and copying can be done without a connection to a computer. Scanning resolutions up to 4800 dpi are available, but the SCX-4016 only provides a flatbed scanning surface for copies and scans. There is no automatic document feeder. Again, for the user who wants a little extra functionality in their laser printer, this may not be an issue, but the lack of an ADF is another lacking feature that makes it less of an all-in-one machine, and maybe push consumers to look elsewhere, such as at the LaserJet 1320 toner printer.
One feature worth noting is the TonerSave button on the unit's front panel. With the TonerSave feature enabled, the printer uses less toner for prints and copies, similar to a draft mode.
