High paper capacity and solid speed make this a great choice for high-volume office use at a low price.
The Samsung ML-2550 is a monochrome laser printer designed for offices that do a high-volume of laser printing. Its paper capacity is larger than most in its price range, with a 500 sheet paper tray, a 100 sheet multipurpose tray, and an optional add-on 500 sheet paper tray. This results in a potential capacity of 1100 sheets total, enough to support the largest printing loads. Where many printers fail in convenience by including an output tray capable of holding only 100 or 150 sheets, the ML-2550 includes a 250 sheet output tray. It's even enough to hold multiple print jobs before needing to be emptied. The printer also has a 100,000 page per month duty cycle.
Print speed is very fast at around 25 pages per minute, with a “first page out” time of 12 seconds. Print quality is very good, with sharp text even on small fonts, and decent graphics printing quality.
The printer includes an auto-duplexing feature for printing on both sides of paper, though its method for doing so is somewhat strange. After printing one side, the printer ejects the paper, then pulls it back in for printing on the opposite side. This method seems to work fine, but it would seem to have more potential for paper jams than flipping the paper internally.
A downside for this printer include the lack of an included ethernet port. Even though an ethernet port is available as an upgrade option, it seems a strange omission for a printer geared toward large office networks. In any case, the printer can be networked through a PC if desired.
Overall, the speed and capacity of the ML-2550 combined with its low price make it a great buy for large offices on a budget, or anyone with high-volume printing needs.
