Samsung ML-1660 Toner Cartridges

As far as basic monochrome laser printers go, the Samsung ML-1660 is average at best. It is not overwhelmingly fast and produces quality that is good enough, but nothing so spectacular that would set it apart from other similar machines. It can produce up to 17 pages per minute and has a maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi using the Samsung ML-1660 toner. It is compatible with most major operating systems and offers a standard USB connection.

There is a 150-sheet input tray and a 100-sheet output tray, so high-volume users will want to look elsewhere unless constantly reloading paper is not an issue. Various media types are compatible including plain paper, labels, envelopes and transparencies. There is a recommended duty cycle of 5,000 pages, which should suffice for small or home offices.

Only one Samsung ML-1660 toner cartridge is needed for operation and it contains only black printer toner, making this a monochrome unit. The starter Samsung ML-1660 toner cartridge can yield an underwhelming 700 pages, but replacement toners have maximum yields of 1,500 pages. Replacements are available from various online vendors as well as directly from the manufacturer.

Manual duplex printing is available and an internal memory of 8 MB is built into the ML-1660. The simple square frame measures 13.4x7.2x8.8 inches and the unit weighs less than 10 pounds, making it a seemingly portable laser printer that should fit on most desk tops. It has a fast warm-up time and produces its first page in a print job in less than 9 seconds. So, though the ML-1660 may not increase productivity, it will not hinder it either. Overall, the Samsung ML-1660 is a good choice for a small work group or individual. It may not be the best printer on the market, but it is certainly reliable and affordable.
