The Okidata MC770 is one of the more impressive color laser class printers on the market, but its high price tag is a serious hurdle for smaller offices. It can print at speeds of up to 35 pages per minute in color and 37 pages per minute in monochrome, but users will also end up spending a lot on Okidata MC770 printer toner supplies.
The MC770 is equipped for all four major functions: printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. It includes a Gigabit ethernet port for fast network sharing, as well as a USB port for a direct connection to a single PC. Wireless support is also available as an optional upgrade. The 9-inch color touchscreen control panel is surprising for such a relatively compact machine, but its bright, full-color menu system is easy to navigate.
Larger offices may find the initial paper capacity of the MC770 a bit limited, at only 630 sheets. It can be expanded to a maximum of 3,160 sheets, however, which adds significantly to its size. There is a nice bit of flexibility in its scanning options, as the flatbed can handle media up to legal in size, while the automatic document feeder can hold up to 100 sheets at a time for more rapid scanning.
As with many laser class models, especially color models, the cost of replacement toners is a problem. Oki MC770 toner cartridges are particularly troublesome, as they tend to be even pricier than competing models. The capacities are large, with each color supply rated for 11,500 pages, and the black Okidata MC770 toner cartridge rated for 15,000 pages of output.
The MC770 has a lot to offer small and mid-sized offices, from its fast speeds to its solid output quality and upgrade options. Unfortunately, its high price and expensive Oki MC770 toner supplies will limit its appeal for those on a budget.
