The Okidata C5800 color laser printer is designed for small and medium offices. It has the usual features one would expect with some nice extras such as built-in ethernet and duplexing. It is also commonly referred to as the C5800ldn
Print speed is fast, at around 28 pages per minute black and 24 pages per minute color. Print quality is excellent in most areas. Black text is just as sharp and dark as one would expect from a quality laser. Photo quality is surprisingly good for a color laser, with better than average color accuracy and few of the artifacts that many laser printers show in photo printing. Color text, however, suffers slightly, as it can be somewhat blurry on small fonts. Users who need laser quality text but need to do some occasional photo printing may find the OKI C5800 color laser printer to be one of the best choices on the market.
The unit features built-in ethernet for easily sharing the unit across a network, or you can connect via USB 2.0. It also features automatic duplexing (double-sided printing), a feature you have to pay extra for in many models. The unit also includes a wide range of color profiles to choose from, making it an appealing choice for graphic artists who need the flexibility of different profiles, which greatly help color accuracy.
Setting up the machine is a little more difficult than it should be. The instructions are not easy to follow, and the process is more involved than the simple "plug and play" setup found with other models. Replacing the Okidata C5800 toner cartridges can be a little messy, and you may end up with toner on your hands.
