The Okidata C5550 Color MFP is a color laser printer with multifunction capabilities. It is geared toward the home or small office user who need more than just printing and would have purchased the Oki C5500 toner printer. Its multifunction capabilities include printing, scanning, faxing, and copying.

The OKI C5550 includes a wide range of features, allowing it to replace multiple devices in your small or home office. No longer will you need a separate copier, printer, fax machine, and scanner. Along with these functions, the C5550 includes some nice extras. Scans can be sent to a computer on the network, an FTP server, or sent as an email for extra convenience. Combined with the 50-sheet automatic document feeder, the unit is ideal for the office that needs to make digital archives of a large number of documents quickly and easily. Using the network scanning features, it is easy to load up to 50 sheets at once and have them scanned and archived without any more input from the user. As another bonus feature, the printer also supports banner printing on sheets of 4 feet or less in length.

The OKI C5550 has the usual connectivity options, either USB or ethernet, and can configure itself easily on your network with just a few button pushes. The unit has a large paper capacity of 400 pages, which can be expanded to 930 sheets with an optional 2nd tray if needed. One downside to the unit is that there is no support for Mac or Linux machines. This is unfortunate, as Mac and Linux users are becoming increasingly common in the workplace.

Print speeds are quite fast, especially for a multifunction unit, at 32 pages per minute black and 20 pages per minute in color. Print quality is excellent, with well-defined text and good graphics quality.

Okidata C5550 toner cartridges are available in tow different sizes. For the standard size, all four colors have a capacity of 5,000 pages each. The high capacity Okidata C5550 toner cartridges have different sizes for the colors and the black. Each color has a capacity of 6,000 pages, and the black toner has a capacity of 8,000 pages.

Overall, the Okidata C5550 is a well-designed multifunction device with some nice convenience features included. Print speeds and print quality are both excellent, but lack of Mac and Linux support may be a deal-breaker for some buyers.
