The Okidata C3400 color ink toner laser printer is designed for the small office user. It has good printing speeds and excellent print quality in both monochrome and color. It does lack expandability for someone looking for a model to expand as the business grows. An upgrade would be the Oki C5100 toner printer.
The design of the OKI C3400 color laser printer is fairly compact. It measures 11.4 inches by 14.8 inches by 18.9 inches (HWD) and weighs 46.3 pounds including the printer toner. It will fit in small spaces, but its depth will keep it from fitting in very tight spaces. Paper handling may be a problem for some users. The unit has a 250 sheet input tray, but only a single-sheet multipurpose feed for other types of media. Some buyers might expect a multipurpose tray. The other issue with paper handling is that paper capacity can not be expanded with add-on tray, so what you see is what you get. Growing offices might want to consider whether the capacity will be enough in the future, and may wish to opt for a more expandable model.
The machine can easily accommodate a small office of users, like the HP 1500 toner printer, but its 200 MHz processor and 32 MB of ram may begin to be a limiting factor if the printer is shared by a larger number of users. To cut down on costs per page, the user can upgrade to high-yield printer toner cartridges which have 2,000 pages per color and 2,500 pages for the black.
Print speed is very good, at 20 pages per minute for black, and color printing speeds are very impressive at 16 pages per minute. Print quality is very good, with excellent text quality and good graphics quality.
Overall, the Oki C3400 is a good choice for a small office that doesn't expect growing needs. Lack of expansion could be a problem in the future for a growing office.
