The Lexmark X912 color laser printer is designed for a large office environment. Its large monthly duty cycle and paper capacity mean it can handle high volumes, unlike the LaserJet 3550 toner printer, which has a much lower capacity, but has similar mediocre speeds.
The Lexmark X912 color laser printer, also known as the X912e, is not only built for high-volume printing, but also has the expandability to take on more in the future. Its 1,200-sheet standard paper capacity can be expanded to a maximum of 4,200 pages, for busy office environments. Its monthly duty cycle of 100,000 pages ensures that it can handle all an office can throw at it.
The unit can print, scan, copy, and fax. Faxing supports Super G3 transmission speeds, and it has a 100 page memory for storing incoming faxes even when the machine is out of paper, ensuring uses never miss a fax. Copying supports reduction and enlargement from 25% to 400%, and can be done in both color and monochrome. Scanning is perhaps the weakest feature, as the machine can only scan at resolutions up to 300 dpi. While this is enough for general office use, it may not be sharp enough for photos or other more advanced uses.
Lexmark X912 toner cartridges have a capacity of either 14,000 pages for each color laser toner cartridge, and the same capacity for each black printer toner cartridge, both of which are higher than competing printer and the Dell 3115cn toner. High-yield cartridges are also available, with capacities of 28,000 pages each. This is the most economical option, though toner costs tend to be higher than competing units.
Print speed is a little slow, much like an ink printer, such as the Xerox 8400 ink deivce, at 28 pages per minute for both black and color prints. Print quality is quite good, but copy quality suffers from the unit's weak scanner, giving copies less detail than competing models.
Overall, the Lexmark X912 is a very robust machine that can handle a large, busy office environment. Unfortunately, its weak scanning and slow printing speeds will be a problem for most users.
