The Lexmark X544 color laser printer is a multifunction device designed for the small or medium office environment. Its many model options allow buyers to get only the features they need at an affordable price.

The Lexmark X544 color laser printer comes in multiple models with different feature sets. The X544 is the base model, the X544N includes networking, the X544 adds duplexing, the X544DTN adds extra paper capacity, and the X544DW has duplexing and wireless connectivity. Most of these features and options are also available as upgrades, allowing small offices to buy a basic model now and add options in the future as needed.

All models have the ability to print, scan, copy, and fax. Copying and faxing can be done in standalone mode, without needing a connection to a computer or a network. Faxing supports Super G3 transmission speeds up to 33.6 kbps, and the scanning feature supports network scanning.

Paper capacity is a bit small for the price, with only a single 250-sheet drawer. Additional paper capacity can be added with optional upgrades, up to a maximum of 900 sheets, which also includes a 100-sheet multipurpose tray.

Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 1,000 pages, with high-yield cartridges with a capacity of 2,000 pages. The black printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 1,000 pages, and the high-yield black cartridge has a capacity of 2,500 pages. Lexmark X544 toner cartridges are very easy to access and replace.

Print quality is excellent across the board. Text is sharp and defined. Photo and color print quality is very clean, with accurate colors that rival even dedicated photo printers. Gradients are smooth, and graphics are very sharp.

Overall, the Lexmark X544 has a lot to offer a busy small or medium office. Its small paper capacity is a small downside, but easily remedied with an optional upgrade, or by opting for the X544DTN model with extra capacity included.
