The Lexmark E350d is a monochrome laser printer designed for the personal home or small office user. Its compact size and fast printing speeds make it a great choice for a home user with high-volume monochrome printing needs. For color needs, the Dell 5110n, which uses Dell 310-7892 toner, is probably a better choice.
The design of the E350d is extremely compact, especially for a laser printer. It measures only 10.2 inches by 14 inches by 15.6 inches (HWD) and weighs only 25 pounds, meaning it will also be fairly easy to move around if necessary. The E350d seems to be designed to appeal to users upgrading from an inkjet printer, and its small size and weight add to this appeal. The E350d can very easily fill a spot vacated by a small inkjet printer on a desk surface, and still leave plenty of room for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
The printer includes a 250 sheet standard paper drawer which can hold up to legal size paper. Strangely, when holding legal paper, the tray sticks out the back of the printer in an awkward way. This design decision was likely in order to keep the overall size of the unit smaller. Lexmark does include a dust cover to keep the paper from getting dusty when the tray sticks out the back. If 250 sheets are not enough, an additional 550 sheet drawer can be added later as an upgrade, expanding total paper capacity to an impressive 800 sheets.
The E350d includes a 1,500 page starter cartridge, while the full-size replacement cartridge has a capacity of 3,500 pages. A high-yield replacement cartridge is available with a capacity of 9,000 pages, and is definitely the most economical option, as the cost per page will be lowest with the high-yield cartridge. Competing toner, like Samsung CLP-510D7K toner, has a much higher cost per page.
Print speed is perhaps the most impressive aspect of the E350d. It can churn out text pages at around 24 pages per minute, very impressive for a personal laser printer. Graphics prints are a little slower at 15 pages per minute, but still quite speedy. Print quality is quite good for text, with clear, defined characters, like Epson S050190 toner. Graphics quality is not as good, but this is typical for laser printers. Graphics quality is still acceptable.
Overall, the Lexmark E350d is a very fast personal printer that will appeal mainly to college students or home users who need print large amounts of text prints very quickly.
