The Lexmark C762 color laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It has multiple configuration and expansion options to meet different needs and fast printing speeds, but its high toner costs may push some people to try the LaserJet 5550 toner printer.
The Lexmark C762 color laser printer comes in four configurations. The C762 is the base model, the C762N adds ethernet networking, the C762DN adds automatic duplexing and networking, and the C762DTN adds networking, duplexing, and extra paper capacity. These multiple models allow different users to choose the options that suit their needs. Each of these options are also available as upgrades, allowing small offices to buy the base model and add options as needed, especially offices expecting to grow.
Standard paper capacity is 600 sheets, divided between a 500-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. The 500 mhz processor ensures it has the processing power to handle high-volume printing, even when upgraded. The initial 128 MB of RAM can also be upgraded to a maximum of 512 MB if needed, to support more users or handle very graphics-heavy printing jobs.
Lexmark C762 toner cartridges are a bit on the expensive side. This results in a high cost per page that is not friendly to offices on a budget. Each color printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 6,000 pages, as does each black printer toner cartridge. Larger capacities would have been nice to see, and would have reduced costs.
Print quality is a mixed bag. Text is very sharp and defined, with only a slight loss in clarity at small font sizes. Graphics and photo quality is average, but not nearly as sharp as text quality, and slightly disappointing.
Overall, the Lexmark C762 is a very versatile and expandable machine that can meet the needs of a variety of office users. Its high toner costs and lackluster graphics and photo quality make it lose to competitive models like Okidata C5200 toner printer, and difficult to recommend.
