The Lexmark 3200 is designed as a color inkjet printer for the home or small office user. Its print speeds are slow at 6 pages per minute for black and 2.5 pages per minute for color. Even with its affordable price, it is expensive to own, as Lexmark 3200 ink prices are high. For more reasonably priced ink, HP 45 ink costs a bit less and yields more pages.
With a maximum printing resolution of 1200 by 1200 dpi, it can produce fairly sharp prints, but it doesn't have the photo quality of other models by Lexmark, nor of competing models. For simple text and some color graphics printing, though, it may fit the bill. The unit is fairly compact, measuring 18.3x11x8.2 inches and weighing only 7.8 pounds. These features make it easy to move around the office. The two Lexmark 3200 ink cartridges included in the box are the combined color cartridge and the single black cartridge. The MFC-250C has individual tanks of Brother LC61Y ink, increasing productivity and accuracy. Lexmark 3200 ink cartridges are easy to replace, but separate color cartridges would have helped reduce wasted printer ink.
The input and output paper tray fold into the machine for a smaller footprint, though folding the input tray down requires removing the paper. Still, this is a nice space-saving feature when the printer is not in use and will be helpful for users with very small office spaces. The included software does an excellent job of managing print jobs and shows users the remaining ink levels and other useful information.
In their review of the inkjet printer, PC World praised its low price and sharp text quality. They also found its included software to be very useful for creative projects. They found its build quality to be a little cheap and the cost of Lexmark 3200 ink to be high. Another direction to go would be a solid ink Phaser 8560 that uses economical and environmentally friendly Xerox 108R00726 ink.
Overall, the Lexmark 3200 is a solid color inkjet, but it falls behind competing models in speed and quality. Its low price is appealing, but printer ink prices are not. There are better models available at a similar price.
