For a printer with only 16 MB of memory, this Lexmark Optra SC 1275 puts out great color quality. The maximum memory can be as high as 192 MB through a SIMM card slot. The print quality is comparable to some lower class models today, but if you want photo quality or your office or workgroup has a high demand on full color a newer model may be right for you.
A downside to this color laser printer is that it has a very large footprint at almost 20 inches by 21 inches it will take up a good portion of space in your office or home. You can find the Lexmark SC 1275 for under $600.00 from discounted stores, making it a steal for your intended uses. No networking is built into the base model SC 1275 but it can be added as an external print server from Lexmark or any other number of companies.
Lexmark toner cartridges last a while on this printer. While they are rated for 3,000 pages, they last almost that long with high amounts of color being used, very cost efficient. Setting up the Lexmark SC 1275 is a snap. Just follow the user guide instructions and you should be up and running in no time. The first page out is slower than newer color laser printers, but every page after that will print fine. The printer also has proprietary software that checks and reports on fuser life, toner levels, and photoconductor life every 100 pages to assure you of consistent prints every time.
